-CAMPING-
Camping is a really common thing to do in Greece, especially during summer. The weather is nice, the nature is usually safe, one can do free camping or go to any organised campsite. You don't really need a lot of things: a sleeping-bag, a tent, a book and good company. Then, you can have the perfect holidays.
I always loved camping. Being so close to the nature gives me a feeling of internal peace and relaxation.
Chiliadou is not far away from Athens. It is actually really close. It is about 2,5 km from Athens through an idyllic route. After Eretria the road becomes curvy and a bit tiring but its worth it.

-CAMPING-
We built our tent in the forest which is 200-300metres before the beach and slowly it converted into a small village. Ages were between 30-40 years old and quite a few were families.
-CAMPING-
Free camping is not allowed on the beach but there were a few people camping there. Anyway, waking up inside a forest is a marvellous experience (it has such a great shadow) however humidity during the night was too much no matter how many clothes you put on. Τhat is an important thing that should be taken in mind (along with warm clothes).
The people of Greece are invited on Sunday 5th July to vote YES or NO to an agreement with its lenders that does not exist anymore. Now the topic is more a matter of greek pride and resistance against austerity and people exploitation. And that's because the measures during the 5 years of austerity have not improved the situation at all, on the other hand they have worsened it. Unemployment, poverty, misery have conquered the country and the poor have become poorer.
Hope was lost until now that some people think that it is our time to resist. But then what happens? We come to a better agreement or we stay alone, isolated from Europe with no allies at all? As greek banks have capital control and as Greece cannot print its own money the question is rhetoric. The answer will be given after Sunday and I hope the result will be the best for people's sake.
I love camping! I have nothing better for a holiday than living in a tent in an idyllic place on the beach or in a forest. Waking up and see the nature, telling scary stories around the campfire, making new friends, dancing and singing, sleeping under the starry sky. I know all that sounds cheesy and like a movie scene. But movies are inspired from real life, right?
Camping for me is the only way to disconnect from the big city's fast pace and from the web that has dominated our existence! In Greece we live in a paradise and camping is perfectly safe in almost all areas! So check, plan and do it!

Camping essentials
We have many "traditions" (aka reasons to travel, things to wait for) during the year. One of them is to visit every summer Ancient Epidavros Theater for a play during the famous Athens&Epidavrus Festival.
This festival takes place every summer since the 1950s. Great artists have performed in this notable greek heritage and it is the big dream of every Greek actor to play at least once in his/her lifetime there. The Theater is so imposing that makes you feel impressed and inspirational thinking about the greatness of Evripides, Aristophanes, Sofocles and other ancient writers.
The atmoshere is really special inside the Theatre, you feel respectful as the history unfolds in front of your eyes. Sometimes until the play starts. I will be honest with you. Not every play is good. Not every play is respectful and not every play will fulfill your expectations. So one should be really careful on choosing a play. Prices are not that expencive, they vary from 40 euros for the good seats (in front, at the center) and get as low as 10 euros but for a really bad seat on top of the theater (no good views, not recommended).
Epidavros Theater was built in the 4th century and discovered in 1881 (it was under the soil). It is famous apart from its exquisite architecture, for its wonderful acoustics so the actors won't need a microphone. It has a classic amphitheatric form and seats up to 14,000 people (!).
It is a half-hour drive from Nafplio and approximately two hours from Athens. It is a very pleasant and frequent excursion for people who live in Athens, even for a day. But the best experience is to go there and stay for a day preferable at the infamous camping Nicolas, where many local artists and actors choose to stay and enjoy the sea and the delicious meal of the restaurant Mouria, located inside the camping.

Athens Jazz Festival is one of my favourite festivals and I am waiting for it anxiously every year. It has now become an institution since it started 15 years ago and it marks the beginning of summer celebrations in the city. It has free entrance (which is very much appreciated from Athenians), great jazz musicians from all over the world and a beautiful public that gathers every night at Technopolis for this 5-day fiesta.
As every year, the line-up had various jazz artists from all over Europe and beyond, like Orfeas Wärdig Tsoukalas Quartets from Sweden, Jeff Herr Corporation from Luxembourg, Emil Viklický “Grand Moravia” Trio from Checz Republic, Gabriele Pezzoli Trio from Switzerland, Gorka Benitez & David Xirgu from Spain, Duo Carlos Bica & Joao Paulo Esteves da Silva from Portugal and Marjorie Barnes & Equinox from Ireland and Holland.
It lasted for 5 days, until Sunday 7th of June and finished with Yoav’s Eshed Trio Millionaires from Israel, Hijaz from Belgium and Mercan Dede Secret Tribe from Turkey.
This year was very successful as on the same time during the festival, the meet market took place so it had a more festival-like appearance. Beautiful people of every age gathered, moving in the rhythm of jazz drinking beer, enjoying the nice weather and having fun.
